The Lost Swimmer
The multi awarded photographer Elena Paraskeva, provided us with this brilliantly cinematic series reminiscent of Mervyn LeRoy’s Million Dollar Mermaid, and 50s Americana. The cotton candy inspired colour palette and the fragility of her heroine create the perfect antithesis for the tragic narrative to unfold…
“The Lost Swimmer” is visually pleasing and “airy” due to the colour palette, but the message is one of self-doubt and inability to achieve one’s potential. The character in the form of a swimmer is so close to her goal (in the form of water) she can touch it, but in her mind, she’s miles away, afraid to take the necessary next step and thus, ends up drowning in self-loathing and despair.
