Nathan Balie
I was born in the town of Worcester in the Western Cape and raised by my mom and key woman figures in my life - my aunties, granny and older sister.
When did you start modelling?
I am currently 22 and I’ve grown into habitual hobbies of fitness, listening to music, hanging out with friends and going on adventures where I can admire nature and it’s beauty.
How did you get scouted?
I began my modelling career in the year 2019 where I was scouted through Instagram by Topco Models.
Who are the models you aspire(d) to?
As I began my modelling career I’ve always aspired to Addis Miller and David Gandy as my role model in this industry.
What would be your dream modelling job?
As I progress in my career, it would be my dream to model for Gucci, Burberry & Louis Vuitton
In an industry based on appearances, how do you handle negative comments and rejection?
I handle negative commments and rejection with grace and humility. I never let it get me down but rather let it motivate me and take it as an opportunity to learn and grow.
From your perspective, how do you think the fashion industry can improve?
In my perspective, the beauty of the fashion industry is that it’s ever-changing and constantly improving. One thing that I feel strongly about and support fully is accountability. I feel that models, clients, agencies and all key players in the industry need to be accountable to one another. This will bring about positive change.
What’s your favourite feature?
Honestly never thought about it and don’t particularly have a favourite feature.
I work out a lot and take pride in my physique if that counts.
Tell us something we wouldn’t know by looking at your portfolio?
This one is tough. My agency’s have developed my portfolio to represent me really well. I would say that I’m not such a serious guy. I’m constantly laughing and don’t take life too seriously.
I’m grateful to just be alive and to be able to travel and make a living from doing what I love. I’m blessed.
